For standard intercom replacement (like-for-like), no permit is required. For new wiring runs through walls or anything that touches the fire/sprinkler system, yes — we coordinate with a licensed electrician partner.
Can you keep our existing wiring?
In about 70% of brownstones, yes — the old buzzer wire is reusable. We run a continuity test before quoting. If the wire is shot, we re-pull and quote that separately.
Will tenants need to download an app?
For audio-only systems, no. For video and smart-entry, yes — but the major brands (Doorbird, ButterflyMX) have free tenant apps. We onboard the first round of tenants in person if needed.
