Greenwich Village is low-rise and old, a district of brownstones, brick row houses, and small pre-war walk-ups on curving streets that predate the grid. Many of these buildings are subdivided into apartments with shared vestibules, so the common calls involve buzzer and intercom systems, front-door mortise locks, and the vestibule door that no longer latches. We repair and replace the intercom panel and the door-release wiring along with the lock itself, because in a converted townhouse the security of every unit depends on that one shared front door working.

Because so much of the Village is student housing and short-term rentals around NYU, apartment turnover is constant, and rekeys are one of our steadiest jobs here. We handle storefront hardware, panic bars, floor closers, and storefront deadbolts, and install mag locks and keypad entry on back rooms so a rotating staff is not sharing keys. A shop that cannot lock its glass door at close is a priority visit, and we finish with commercial parts on hand.

The Village also has its share of owner-occupied townhouses and small co-ops that want more than a basic lock. We set up master-key systems for a multi-unit brownstone so an owner holds one key for the whole building, fit restricted high-security cylinders, and rekey after a renovation crew has had the run of the place. With multiple subway lines converging near Washington Square and our shop one bridge away, we can usually get a tech to the Village without the delay of a full cross-town trip.
